OB RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to pregnant women during all stages of their pregnancy, including prenatal, labor, delivery, and postpartum care.
- Monitor and assess the health status of both the mother and baby, including vital signs, fetal heart rate, contractions, and postpartum recovery.
- Assist with the management of labor, including monitoring progress, administering medication, providing pain relief, and assisting with the delivery process.
- Educate and support expectant mothers and their families on various topics related to prenatal care, childbirth, breastfeeding, and newborn care.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including physicians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for patients.
- Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and other treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers.
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of sterile delivery rooms and equipment.
- Document all patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely.
- Provide emotional support and counseling to expectant mothers and their families, addressing their concerns and answering any questions they may have.
- Respond to emergencies and provide immediate care as needed, including performing CPR and other life-saving measures.

- Strong clinical skills and knowledge of obstetric nursing practices and procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team.
- Ability to handle stressful situations and maintain composure in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and ability to assess and interpret patient data accurately.
- Proficient in using medical equipment, including fetal monitors, IV pumps, and vital signs monitors.
- Skilled in providing patient education and counseling on topics related to prenatal and postpartum care.
- Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals.
- Knowledge of infection control protocols and ability to maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize and manage multiple patient care tasks.
- Compassion and empathy to provide emotional support to patients and their families during childbirth and postpartum.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
- Previous experience in obstetric nursing is preferred but not required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Additional certifications such as Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required or preferred.
- Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations and guidelines related to obstetric care.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
- Physical stamina and ability to lift and move heavy objects and patients as required.
